“MPlayer-based media player”

djoPlayer is based on MPlayer, but offers less features to make for a simpler media player.

The application features all the basic playback buttons, full screen and other actions all in one unobtrusive interface, from which you can quickly launch movies. djoplayer handles all the popular video formats, including real and avi and will read subtitles. We also liked having features like 'Pan & Scan' or Post Processing, although these aren't highly advanced.

In all, djoplayer makes for a good media player if you don't really care about adjusting video and audio settings and only watch popular video formats.The program is easy use and launches quickly. It also takes very little space in your Mac.

There were two drawbacks to the application though. For one, we were a little bit annoyed that the application started up in full screen and always on top and suggest unchecking these before playing any sort of media. Also, we've noticed that the application can be quite unstable under both Tiger and Leopard.

djoPlayer could be a very good basic media player, but is much too unstable for the moment. Let's hope future releases bring some stability.

djoPlayer can read avi (DivX 3, 4, 5, Xvid), vob, mpeg-1, mpeg-2, mpeg-4, asf, wmv, ac3, mov, real... and subtitles. Its interface is really easy to use, it can do Pan & Scan, and improve video quality with Post Processing. If you like MPlayer but want something simpler, this application should do the trick.
